Student Support

English Language Learners

Thirty percent of our students are considered Multilingual Learners (ML).

Meridian has six Multilingual Learner (ML) teachers to support our students learning English. We ensure that each student has a personalized plan to stay on track with their grade level curriculum, have the appropriate accommodations, and build their English vocabulary.

For questions about the ML programs offered at Meridian, please reach out to Ms. Rachel Chaney, Manager, Multilingual Learner Program at rchaney@meridian-dc.org.

Special Education

Meridian uses a full inclusion model for students with special needs, which means that students learn alongside their peers in a full classroom.

Our team of full-time Special Education professionals provide the extra guidance, intervention, and assessment for our identified students. Other team members include a Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, School Psychologist, Counselors, Instructional Aides, and Behavioral Support staff.

Teachers receive ongoing professional development to aid in the implementation of inclusion, such as modifications to student work and instructional best practices, as well as specialized techniques and strategies.

Meridian offers an Extended School Year program to students with IEPs that qualify. For more information or for questions about the ESY program, please contact Ms. Rukayatu Bello, Director, Special Education.
