Out of School Time Programs

Morning and Afternoon Extended Learning Programs

Meridian offers morning and afternoon extended learning programs to keep children engaged and safe outside of normal school hours.

This year, Meridian will offer Out-of-School Time (OST) programs before and after school (before school/clubs/tutoring) in addition to sports to keep children engaged and safe outside of normal school hours. There are fees associated with two OST programs.  Fortunately, one of our providers at the Elementary School (YMCA) accepts vouchers and we encourage parents to seek financial assistance through DC’s childcare voucher program as soon as possible.  For registration support, please contact ostteam@meridian-dc.org or visit the Front Desk at either campus.

As in past years, Meridian will offer a variety of clubs dependent on student and faculty interest. Clubs and tutoring will begin on October 16 and registration information will be available mid-September.

At this moment, registration for morning extended learning, and the YMCA are the only programs open for registration.  Registration links are below for each program.

Morning Extended Learning

Our Morning Extended Learning program will operate from the Elementary school campus for ALL students from 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM. Middle School students are required to complete the shuttle registration and will ride the morning shuttle to the Middle School.

Only students enrolled in our Morning Extended Learning program will be allowed to enter the building before 7:50 AM. No students can be admitted after 7:49 AM.

The cost to take part in Morning Extended Learning for school year 2023-2024 is based upon the number of students enrolled: 1 student - $100 / month 2 students - $125 / month 3 students - $150 / month 4+ students - $175 / month. Payment can be accepted in cash or online via Meridian's website. Individuals paying in cash will receive a paper receipt.

Program starts on Tuesday, August 29 (the second day of school) and registered students can arrive anytime between 7:00 - 7:49 AM each day school is open.

Meridian recommends beginning the voucher application process as soon as possible, to minimize any delay in your child(ren) starting programming after-school.

This year, the program will be paid for by a parent fee, or in part or in full with the OSSE childcare voucher. Meridian is not covering the cost for the YMCA as in years past.

Q & A

Why doesn’t Meridian run its own aftercare program anymore?

Meridian was offering aftercare services to families at a below market rate. It is possible that when the program was initiated, it was offering fair and competitive pricing. But after many years of operation without increasing costs, it was determined that the school could not continue to operate the program without incurring significant financial losses. Furthermore, we found that other providers offered richer, higher quality programming than what Meridian had been able to offer on its own in recent years.

Does Meridian accept OSSE child care vouchers?

Meridian is actively working with OSSE to complete the application materials needed to support families in participating in the OSSE child care voucher program. Meridian will help subsidize the monthly cost for qualified families with demonstrated financial need in either program, giving priority to families with students in grades PK-5, on a first come, first serve basis. Our on-site afterschool partner organizations have begun the process with OSSE to accept vouchers (OSSE subsidy) for their programs and is currently awaiting further communications from OSSE.
