Meet Meridian’s Head of School

 

Matt McCrea is the Head of School at Meridian, serving as the chief executive of the school for the last four years. Prior to Meridian, Matt was the principal of Benjamin D. Foulois Creative and Performing Arts Academy, a nationally-recognized school for the arts in Prince George's County, MD. Matt has also served as a teacher, instructional coach, and resident principal in his fifteen years in education. Matt has also advised a number of school districts and organizations in a variety of matters related to education and public policy, including speaking at the US Department of Education on approaches to personalized learning, and has had his work showcased in a number of publications and conferences.

Matt is currently a Cambiar Catalyst fellow, an alum of both New Leaders and Teach for America and was named an Emerging Leader by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Matt is a graduate, with honors, of the University of Chicago, where he studied mathematics and education policy before completing his Master of Arts in Teaching from American University. Matt is also currently writing a dissertation in Education Policy at the University of Maryland, College Park. Matt grew up in Northwest Indiana as the oldest of six children and found his love for teaching while sitting at the dinner table helping his younger siblings with their homework. Matt currently lives in College Park, MD, with his wife and two children.
